Purchase Protection Information


All ophthalmic lenses, frames and coatings we offer are made of the highest quality materials available.  The following explains the Basic Purchase Protection policy backing your purchase from EyeglassUniverse.com. These are included without cost and are included within the cost of products purchased. Note: These policies do not apply to Safety eyeglass assemblies for either lens or frames or sub-assemblies of any kind. A separate safety product policy applies.

1)             Defect in material or manufacture – Applies to Frames and Lenses
After receipt, should any lens or frame develop a defect which can be attributed to a failure of lens material or an original frame manufacturing defect or error within one year (365 days) of the order date, when so determined after our inspection, we’ll replace the lens or frame with the same items at no cost to the original customer. For lenses, all replacements are for the original frame purchased and for the original prescription. For frames, our obligation is to replace a frame with the same make and model. If the original frame make and model is discontinued and unavailable in any color from the manufacturer, we’ll permit you to choose any similar frame valued up to the selling price or the original sold frame. If frame replacement is necessary, we’ll discount replacement lenses at the time of service by 45% and permit an upgrade in the Rx as long as the Rx can be accomplished in the original lens material.

2)             ­Our errors in processing or processing to an out of tolerance condition – Applies to Lenses
In the rare instance where a lens we manufacture for you is believed to be out of ANSI Z80.1 – 2015 standards tolerance, return the lens or lenses to us in the original frame so that we may verify the out of tolerance condition.  If we confirm that the lens or lens or lenses we manufactured do not meet the ANSI Z80.1 – 2015 tolerance standards measured against the prescription values you entered on your order, we will remanufacture the lens or lenses, install them in the original frame, and return them to you without further cost to you. No prescription changes are permitted, however. This provision of our Basic Purchase Protection applies for one year (365 days) from the original order date. Inside of 365 days, we will remake replacement lenses only once during this warranty period to correct errors that we make.  We will use the original Rx and frame parameters to fulfill our remake obligation to you. Our basic purchase protection option only applies to the lens out of tolerance, and not to a pair of lenses. We owe only for the out of tolerance lenses.

3)             Fourteen (14) Day “Pursuit of Happiness” Lens & Frame Return Policy – Applies to Lenses and Frames
All lenses are processed for you and your prescription parameters.  Consequently, once an order is entered and processed by our system the lenses cannot be returned for a refund outside the first 14 days from the date of first ordering your glasses. Your frame and lenses may be returned within the first 14 days after your order. You may return them for any reason but, must be in new and unworn condition when received by us. Always call for a Return Authorization (RMA). We reserve the judgment to determine whether frame and lenses are in new condition after receipt and inspection.

4)             Normal wear and tear, neglect, abuse, poor handling not covered – Applies to Lenses and Frames
This basic purchase protection is provided to you without cost.  Normal wear and tear is not included in this Basic Purchase Protection nor is chemical reaction with skin, chemical, or cleaning agent.  Neglect, abuse, or poor handling by the wearer or their optical professionals is also not included as determined within our sole discretion and judgment.  Accidental or intentional damage is specifically excluded from the basic purchase protection options.  Patient, Doctor or prescription errors are not included in these purchase protections. Lost glasses are not covered under any of our purchase protection options.

5)             Lens Coatings – Applies to Lenses
Our policies for Anti-reflective coatings or Scratch Coatings are covered under the same basic purchase protection option and conditions we specify here and elsewhere in our business operational policies.

6)             Extended Purchase Protection Options are handled separate from this policy – Applies to Lenses and Frames
When purchased for your eyeglasses, our Extended Purchase Protection Option (EPPO) replace our Basic Purchase Protection (BPP) expressed here. Regardless of which purchase protection option applies, you are limited to one (1) event to remedy any defect or tolerance issue within the 365 days of your original purchase.

7)             No Cash or Refunds in Lieu of Performance of Purchase Protections – Applies to Frames and Lenses
We will not pay cash or refund money in lieu of our performance under the expressed Basic Purchase Protection policies.

8)             When the Basic Purchase Protection Applies
The Basic Purchase Protection policy applies only in absence of an Extended Purchase Protection Option (EPPO) you buy. The BPP policy is subject to change without advance notification and, only the current version of our Basic Purchase Protection (BPP) policy in use at EyeglassUniverse.com will apply at the time and date of your service request regardless of whether a different policy version was applicable on the date of product purchase. EyeglassUniverse.com reserves the sole and exclusive right to change this policy.

This enhanced purchase protection is available at additional cost and must be purchased at the time of purchasing complete pairs of eyeglasses (lenses and frame and coatings). Note: This policy does not apply to Safety eyeglass frames, lenses or sub-assemblies of any kind. A separate safety policy applies.

1)             Period of Coverage
The duration of the Extended Purchase Protection Option is 365 days from the date of the sale of a complete pair of eyeglasses.

2)             What is Covered
The Extended Purchase Protection Option will provide the following enhanced services with minimal additional qualification to original lenses, coatings and the eyeglass frame purchased from EyeglassUniverse.com. We will:

  1. Replace a broken or non-repairable frame, subject to the following:

a1.           We will use the same frame make, model and color when available.
a2.           We will substitute the same frame make and model with an available color.
a3.           Our obligation is to provide the original frame but, if a frame has been discontinued and is unavailable in any color, we’ll replace the frame with a similar frame you choose that does not exceed the retail purchase price of the frame you are replacing.
a3.i.         In this instance we will include a new pair of lenses without charge using the original prescription.

  1. We’ll replace a lens or lenses with excessive scratching or coating failure for the original frame purchased.
  2. We’ll replace a broken lens or lenses regardless of the cause of breakage using the original prescription and frame.
  3. At the time of service, we’ll permit an upgrade to a newer prescription and or lens material of choice at a 40% discount off our current (undiscounted) lens pair pricing. This offer applies to any EPPO service option being provided. No other discount applies.
  4. At the time of service, you can purchase an additional identical pair of eyeglasses (lens, frame, coatings) for a 40% discount from our current and undiscounted lens, coating and frame pricing. No other discount applies.
  5. The additional cost of the Extended Purchase Protection Option cost will be applied to each complete pair of eyeglasses purchased on the same order. There are no exceptions.
  6. No discount or coupon code will apply to the cost of the Extended Purchase Protection Option cost we calculate. You may still use authorized coupons and discount offers on the lenses, coatings and frames you purchase.
  7. We’ll return your upgraded eyeglasses and provide packaging and shipment using a trackable method at our expense.
  8. To offset your cost of shipping your glasses to us, we’ll provide a 10% off coupon towards your next purchase.

3)             What Is NOT Covered and Other Conditions

  1. The Extended Purchase Protection Option must be added to the original order and paid for at the time of sale.
  2. The Extended Purchase Protection Option is available only on complete pairs of eyeglasses (lens, frame, coatings).
  3. We will not honor the Extended Purchase Protections on safety glasses (lens, coating, or frames), contact lenses, or any reglazing/re-lensing placed in used eyeglass frames under any circumstances.
  4. Purchase Protection Options do not apply to lost eyeglasses. Lost eyeglasses are not covered by purchase protection.
  5. Coverage does not provide updates to lens prescriptions except as otherwise specified elsewhere in this policy.
  6. Original eyeglasses (lenses and frame) must be returned to us for any purchase protection option to apply.
  7. The Extended Purchase Protection Option covers one (1) service incident within the 365 day protection period. Thereafter, the Extended Purchase Protection Option expires.
  8. Within the first fourteen (14) days after purchase, refunds include the EPPO costs unless services have been rendered. Beyond 14 days, the Extended Purchase Protection Option is fully earned and non-refundable. However, purchase protection will still be provided for the duration of the 365 day protection period.
  9. EPPO services must first begin with a phone call to our office and the issuance of a Service Authorization (SA).

4)             No Cash or Refunds in Lieu of Performance of Purchase Protections
We will not pay cash or refund money in lieu of our performance under the Extended Purchase Protection Option (EPPO).

5)             The date of your purchase determines the applicable version of the Extended Purchase Protection Option that applies even if other versions of this purchase protection option provide different terms than the policy in effect at the time of your purchase. This policy is subject to change without advance warning or notification in the sole discretion of EyeglassUniverse.com.

These protections are included without cost. Note: These policies do not apply to non-safety eyeglass assemblies of any kind. A separate purchase protection policy applies to regular eyeglasses.

1)             Defect in material or manufacture – Applies to Frames and Lenses
After receipt, should any lens or frame develop a defect which can be attributed to a failure of lens material or an original frame manufacturing defect or error within ninety (90) days of the order date, when so determined after our inspection, we’ll replace the safety lens or frame with the same items at no cost to the original customer.  Lenses or frames that display damage from external work or environment sources are not covered for damage under this policy.

  1. For lenses, all replacements are made for the original frame purchased and for the original prescription provided at the time of your order. Our obligation is to replace only the original safety lens material. Call for other possible service options.

 

  1. For frames, our obligation is to replace a frame with the same make and model as originally purchased. After receipt, and within ninety (90) days of purchase, should any safety frame develop a defect which can be attributed to a failure of material or manufacture, when so determined after our inspection, we’ll replace the frame with the original frame make and model. If the safety frame is discontinued and unavailable in any color from the manufacturer, we’ll permit you to choose any similar safety frame valued up to the selling price or the original sold frame. If frame (make, model) replacement is necessary, we’ll discount replacement lenses at the time of service by 45% and permit a change in the Rx as long as the Rx can be accomplished within the original lens material.

3)             Fourteen (14) Day Return Policy – Return Policy for Lenses and Frames
All safety lenses are processed for you and your prescription parameters.  Consequently, once an order is entered and processed by our system the lenses cannot be returned for a refund. Within fourteen (14) days after purchase, your frame may be returned for a full refund of the price paid for the safety frame. You may return them for any reason but, the safety frame must be in new and unworn condition when received by us. Always call for a Return Authorization (RMA). We reserve the judgment to determine whether the frame is in new and in unused and unworn condition after our receipt and inspection.

4)             Normal wear and tear, neglect, abuse, poor handling not covered – Applies to Lenses and Frames
Normal wear and tear is not included in our Safety Purchase Protection policy obligation to you. Chemical reaction with skin, chemical, or cleaning agent, environmental exposure to chemical agents, and exposure to conditions within your work environment, do not entitle you to coverage under this policy.  Neglect, abuse, or poor handling by the wearer or their optical professionals is also not included as determined within our sole discretion and judgment.  Accidental or intentional damage is specifically excluded from the Safety Purchase Protection we provide.  Patient, Doctor or prescription errors are not included in these purchase protections. Lost glasses are not covered under any of our purchase protection options.

5)             Lens Coatings – Applies to Lenses
We provide no purchase protection for failure of scratch or anti-reflective coating on safety lenses under any circumstances.

6)             No Cash or Refunds in Lieu of Performance of Purchase Protections – Applies to Frames and Lenses
We will not pay cash or refund money in lieu of our performance under these Safety Purchase Protection (SPP) policies.

7)             Applicable Policy Version Disclaimer
The SPP policy is subject to change without advance notice and, only the current version of our Safety Purchase Protection (SPP) policy will apply at the time and date of your service request regardless of whether a different policy version was applicable on the date of product purchase. EyeglassUniverse.com reserves the sole and exclusive right to change this policy without notice to you.
